Trumpeter Alison Balsom, who won the best young performer Brit in 2006, is nominated for the female artist of the year award alongside opera singers Anna Netrebko and Danielle De Niese.

Legendary tenor Jose Carreras has already been announced as the winner of the lifetime achievement Brit, but the winners in the other categories will be revealed at the awards ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall on May 14.
