25th October 2004

EMI Classics is very pleased to announce that it has signed a new exclusive contract with the trumpeter, Alison Balsom. The first recording to be made under the contract will be a disc of Bach chamber works, due for release in 2006. Alison Balsom has already made one recording for EMI Classics as part of its Debut series, of trumpet and organ recitals by a wide range of composers including Bach, Sweelinck, Purcell, Thalben-Ball, Messiaen, Tomasi and Eben (cat. No.5 75683 2). She was accompanied by the organist Quentin Thomas. The disc was released in October of 2002 and Alison's performance received much acclaim.

"Alison Balsom is a player we are likely to hear considerably more from in the coming years and this debut disc will do much to galvanise her already growing reputation." (Classical Net) The recording also caught the attention of the Gramophone, who wrote: "An auspicious début indeed from a talented young trumpet player with a true soloist's flair." "Balsom's sound, throughout, is distinctive and generous - well caught in Paisley Abbey with the advantage of the superb organ... This is certainly an auspicious start".

When asked about her new contract, Alison Balsom said: "Following the wonderful time I had working on my Debut CD in 2002, I'm really pleased to be signing this new three-disc contract with EMI. I'm looking forward to an exciting, and I hope, pioneering, future with EMI - as well as being great for me as an artist, it's also an important vote of confidence in the trumpet as a solo instrument."
