"Without being music of the best quality, the Hummel concerto offers the soloist great technical opportunities which the young English trumpeter exploited in the most brilliant manner. Her perfect legato allowed the elegiac melodic line in the Andante to sing out with a natural vocal character. However, in the fireworks display of the final Rondo, Balsom showed off a spectacular demonstration of virtuosity".
